King of Envy by Ana Huang: The One That Got the Shallow Treatment 1🌟
I just read this book because of the immense amount of hype that it gets not tiktok hype, but more of a marketing promotional hype because this book has a damn viewing party and an original song complementary to this release, and i'm here to judge whether those money spent could have been way better spent on actually writing a better book.
AND SO PERHAPS I WAS CORRECT
Chapter 2 and we already have Ayana lusting over this new character named "Vuk" like....ALREADY
Well Ana Huang said that this book can be read as a standalone so i'm going to damn read itt, as a standalone. And God Damn, chapter 2 and they're already lusting over each other TALK ABOUT LACK OF IDEAS PEOPLE. And Vuk acts like a clingy turtle you just found at a freshwater location because his personality only boils down to knowing every single information, every single conversation, and every single event that happens in Ayana's life. He's SOOOOOOO ooohhhh myseterious, oooooh stealty, ooooooooh I'm so made of ice so like lock me up in a freezer or something (im running out of adjectives here, where's the thesaurus) so DARK and so ....
ALPHA 😈😈😈
God am im like gotta puke 🤢 🤢
OMG IN NOT EVEN ON CHAPTER 4 YET COME ON.
After chapter 4: oh noooooooooooooooo is my baby boy immature? Yepp, just slam the door cuz you're rock hard rn.
Chapter 5 and i feel like the author already doesn't have any ideas on what to write now, wow it's already repeating itself.
“Yes. Like the Kermit the Frog memes? Or the guy blinking nervously?” I spent a lot of time waiting and doom scrolling at casting calls, so I was well-versed in internet jokes.
YEP IT'S GUARANTEED NOW GUYS ❕❗❗❕,. ANA HUANG DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT ANYMORE 🥴🥴
Bingo. It’s a game where players match the numbers called to the ones on their card.
“I know what bingo is.” I glowered, unsure whether he was serious or having fun at my expense."
Bingo is a game of chance. No complexity required. It’s the perfect activity to help me unwind after making decisions at work all day.
guys ana huang really doesn't know what to write anymore
Ana Huang doesn't know what to write anymore right? 💯 YES YES YESSSS, PUT A RANDOM BAR FIGHT SCENE, SURELY THAT ADDS TO THE NONEXISTENT PLOT 😁😁😁 EVERYONE WILL FOR SURE TALK ABOUT IT (oh wait it did...... It got a discourse on tiktok, what am i expecting 😒)
...
...
Drinking games and laser tag... she fell off of literary originality, what the hell is happening
That sub"plot" about the brotherhood? Not even tackled properly, it's the only mild redeeming quality of this book.
And Ana Huang pleaseee..dont ever write about thriller, suspense, gang violence, death and torture. CUZ I FOUND TOO MANY PLOT HOLES (waitt plot holes in a non-existent plot? what am I doing?)
The Stalker? God why did that subplot get more screen time than the brotherhood subplot. ALL THIS BOOK IS JUST SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT AFTER SUBPLOT.
Emmanuelle Subplot lezgooooo, Ana Huang ran out of ideas again 🥰🥰🥰
...
...
...
After 50% everything just became all random fillers, bookshops, calls, dates and fragrances. And i thought it couldn't get worse than the first half.
THE ELEVATOR SCENE 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
what...... What about it? 🥱🥱 They had sex, that's it, one of the most predictable things to ever happened because really, for this non-existent plot, what do you expect to happens
OohhOOOOOOOOH ok i get it...Ana Huang wrote all of these subplots because all of them are going to be connected at the end 😇😇😇, (still doesn't negate the fact that there is no main plot)
Surprise betrayal, Well I already kind of predicted it because of how the traitor was talking all throughout.
THE CAT???????? WHOOOOWWWWWWWWW, Ana Huang Surely Ran Out Of Ideas, WHY??? BECAUSE CATS DON'T DO THAT, THE ENTIRE REASON THAT THINK ONLY HAPPENED IS FOR A PLOT DEVICE. (The amount of plot holes that that 'betrayal' twist and aftermath just created even MORE plot holes for the non-existent plot and added convenience and plot armor.
92%:
Ayana had somehow...
Had somehow...??? Really?????? Plot armor do be plot armoring right now, the ending was so cliche and all for the happily ever after, a sad ending would have made more sense in the situation but nahh.
Wow another plot 'twist' at 93%, a plot twist to the plot twist that just happened 1% ago, God and i thought the first twist was poorly written, this one is even more horrible, i didn't predict the second plot twist because i didn't know that the author would stoop even lower than this entire book already have but i guess that's what happens when you run out of ideas, every single other character in here is flat and only serve to be a tool for Vuk and Ayana's damn edgy romance story 🤦♂️
“It wasn’t the best plan, but it worked out in the end. I’m okay,”
Oh wait let me rephrase that...
"It wasn’t the best plan, but since the author wanted to have a cheesy happy ending, she made the all story have too much plot armor and convenience so it worked out in the end. I'm okay"
don't let this review of mine subvert your expectations for this book, this book is perfectly easily consumable for (consumers alike) and that is just what you want in a book right? I'm just here being critical about it. And also shallow books aren't really for me anymore since i can just predict everything that will happen (It just has so many flaws, i really thought that Ana Huang would grow as an author after 4 years of Twisted Love's release but i stood corrected, she's still the same wannabe professional but in reality just a wattpad writer. But now its even worse, cuz Twisted Love is SOMEHOWWWWWW better than this)
