The Awakening by Kate Chopin: The Classic That Deserves Its title of a Classic 5🌟

Image
I'm speechless and doesn't have the capacity to write another long yap review because THIS BOOK JUST HAS SUCH NUMEROUS SUBSTANCE AND SO MANY THINGS TO TALK ABOUT, NOW I GET WHY COLLEGES PUT THIS AS A REQUIRED READING ASSIGNMENT, THIS IS LIKE SO GOOD AND SO IN DEPTH. This is a book where an entire character is focused on and Edna Pontellier is another one of those characters where i can consider it as the 'morally gray characters that highly acclaimed classic books focuses about because realistically speaking, not every single person in the world is a good person' such as Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger She's selfish she doesn't care about her husband and her children the only person that she thinks about is herself and incredibly narcissistic, self-serving, only makes bad decisions and a spoiled brat. And that "awakening" we're talking about? Not a good awakening. This book really makes you rude for the other...

King of Envy by Ana Huang: The One That Got the Shallow Treatment 1🌟

Image
I just read this book because of the immense amount of hype that it gets not tiktok hype, but more of a marketing promotional hype because this book has a damn viewing party and an original song complementary to this release, and i'm here to judge whether those money spent could have been way better spent on actually writing a better book. AND SO PERHAPS I WAS CORRECT Chapter 2 and we already have Ayana lusting over this new character named "Vuk" like....ALREADY Well Ana Huang said that this book can be read as a standalone so i'm going to damn read itt, as a standalone. And God Damn, chapter 2 and they're already lusting over each other TALK ABOUT LACK OF IDEAS PEOPLE. And Vuk acts like a clingy turtle you just found at a freshwater location because his personality only boils down to knowing every single information, every single conversation, and every single event that happens in Ayana's life. He's SOOOOOOO ooohhhh myseterious, oooooh stealty, ooooooooh...

Lady Susan by Jane Austen: The Second Upbringing! 5🌟

Image
Jane Austen when writing implied action scenes are WAY better than when she even 'tries' to write dialogue, this book is written in the form of letters being sent from person to person being from multiple different people and i do must say, Lady Susan IS SOOOOOOOOOO manipulative and just Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss. She gets entangles in many affairs (maybe even too many affairs) but she manages it like it's a vacation day ⛱️. She is machiavellian and is not afraid to seduce and be afraid to do whatever trouble that she can think of because that is just who she is. Every single other character is an extension to the possibilities to what she can create of the world around her and i think that her character is extremely well written and executed perfectly. Alicia, her best friend even got caught up in the trends of a mess that she made but even still, Alicia is just that supportive friend who will even support you till the end even though damn well, ur eventually going to f...

Violet Bent Over The Grass by Lana Del Ray: The Missing 'Spark' from her songs 3🌟

Image
Well someone has recently told me that there is a Lana Del Ray poetry book so you know i would have to buy it. But after reading all of it, the entire thing felt like a soulless cash grab, but it IS well written. This is vastly better than all the other 'poetry books' or whatever that i've read that are astoundingly seven words long 🤦‍♂️ (wow great poetry, its seven damn words long) 👏👏👏 you know which books i'm talking about. This one has great rhythm and what i think will actually be future lana dela ray songs??? The ideas presented are well thought out and she doesn't go for a Tumblr-esque emotional approach for sad girlies, it has actual DEPTH and meaning to all the poetry. One thing that i would criticize though is that the lines all throughout the poems don'tttttt have any cohesiveness to all the others, it has barely any general direction to follow and i think that even genius writing should have clarity on what it is supposed to portray. All of these ...

The Bighead by Edward Lee: Shockingly Only For Shock Value 1🌟

Image
If i were going to tell you what is a book that is just pure blasphemy, i will tell you this one. There is a Jesus character that basically watches the priest (Alexander the celibate) get raped so uhh. Ya, a slander the christianity and filled with one of the most gore, vile, disgusting things you will ever read. Jesus in here is like your typical teenager who just discovered that swear words exist so they just use it whenever they can in their daily vocabulary. There is also two characters who are kids or i forgot, maybe just look like kids and their names are Dicky and Balls. Yes that is their names, you mothers will think that their parents hated them when they were born in this world because who names their kid like that. (They're also assholes btw, i think the two of them are one of the cause for a rape scene idk?? I kind of forgot which one because of the amount of rape scenes in here). There are also nuns in here whose entire existence is to just rape ppl, another delightful...

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman: Limited to reach its fullest potential 4🌟

Image
This book pretty much reminds me of another book titled What Good Girls Do by Jonathan Butcher aaand that book pretty much is way better than this, because if you think about this idea enough, this is just SAD, so SAD and DEPRESSING and most importantly SAD, but i feel like there are some limiting factors that could made this book reach its fullest potential because the situation that the main character is placed in is probably as worse than what the main character in What Good Girls Do have to endure in her life but the fact that the men in here just...doesn't make sense at all is very limiting for the novel itself because them LITERALLY not doing anything except for 'intervening when the offhand chance that someone gets violent' is a clear indication that the author doesn't want to explore the themes of violence and insanity in which when one is put into this situation WOULD DEFINITELY have violent or insane tendencies but Nopppppp this book doesn't engage with...

Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs: Misery in Complexity 5🌟

Image
I got this book from an extreme horror book recommendation site and not only is it pure disturbing (literally just Hogg 2.0) it is alsooooo 🤙 stupid confusing.. which is almost the point that is trying to get across by the author. So actually the entire point of this book is to be confusing..(mirroring the effects of heroin to the author by writing in a non traditional way, "technically if you think about it it's just shit writing" but like I'm sooo meta and a good 4th wall breaker so I'll just forget the rules of grammar and syntax). Which i almost didn't know because i was too busy looking for a plot that is absolutely non-existent. Every single chapter is a totally different story with new characters, only featuring a few (mainly only one) character/s that are also present in the previous chapters. Which if you put it together, is a certified absolute mess 🤦‍♂️. This book is an embodiment of a stoner, written like how a stoner's life would be like). ...

Art on My Mind by Bell Hooks (30th anniversary edition ARC review): Social Commentary on Black Arts and Politics 4🌟

Image
First of all i would like to thank The New Press for the ARC¿ (kinda ARC¿) Since upon researching there's already a book named 'Art on My Mind' also by bell hooks published in 1995 aaaaaaaand this is the 30th anniversary edition :) with the original text and essays being preserved with no additional apparatus or annotations (or so I've researched). Just an additional new commissioned foreword/introduction by Mickalene Thomas, so this review will only focus on the new media being released. Cover: One that stood outs is the updated design and the cover, which consists of bell hooks in 8 beautiful photographs, my only criticism is the font present on the name and the title, it is rather odd that the text present on the photographs have this nostalgic handwriting vibe going on whilst the title, the author name, and the "Visual Politics" have this simplistic, modern, and linear vibe, which is strange because in a contrasting perspective, the photographs have much...
